Mt. Tabor Garden Apartments

Mt. Tabor Garden Apartments are a set of twin buildings built in 1942. Each has twelve apartments and are situated on a full acre of property surrounded by green grass. They are located five miles from downtown Portland in West Tabor Village on the west side of Mt. Tabor Park. The buildings are located in a vibrant neighborhood just off the SE Division Street corridor. They are near Franklin High school, and nestled between restaurants, a grocery store, coffee shops, food carts, a bakery, ice cream shops, a yoga studio and Clinton and Mt. Tabor Parks—all within walking distance.

One bedroom apartments are typically 675 square feet; two bedrooms are typically 900 square feet. Each building consists of six one bedroom and six two bedroom apartments, each with its own front and rear doors, and each two bedroom apartment has its own garden. Each one bedroom apartment opens to a spacious grass courtyard. Each apartment has its own assigned parking space at the rear of the complex—a popular amenity for tenants.

Apartments feature great floor plans with roomy kitchens, combined dining and living rooms, hardwood floors throughout, comfortable bedrooms with walk-in closets, extra closet space (approximately five in each), large windows, period tile-work in the kitchens and bathrooms, and upgraded lighting. Most of the bathrooms have been fully renovated with new toilet, sink, shower surround, and fresh air ventilation. Shared amenities include on-site laundry, basement storage facilities and dedicated indoor bike storage.

Our work on this project began in the Fall of 2008 when the buildings were purchased. New energy-efficient double-pane windows with screens were installed in all apartments in 2009 along with floor and attic high energy efficiency insulation. In 2010 we added an indoor storage area for approximately 20 bicycles. In 2011–12 we completely rebuilt the building envelope which included new vented roofing systems, including power vents to reduce attic heat in the summer, new gutter systems and stripping off all the old paint and reinvigorating the buildings with new colors.
